Default network card: Asus P5PL2 - RTL8111B

I installed SUSE Linux 10.0 on my machine. There was no any problem
prompted during the installation. After installation, however, the network
doesn't work. It shows 'no any active connection' in the case of cable
being normally connected and cable being no problem.

My network card is RealTek(RTL)8111B embedded on the motherboard ASUS
P5PL2. I checked YaST in which it only showed the recognized network card
was 'ASUSTEK Ethernet Card' (no the model) rather than RealTek(RTL)8111B. I
also searched the SUSE Linux hardware support database from which SUSE
Linux so far doesn't support RealTek(RTL)8111B. However, I found the linux
drivers of RealTek(RTL)8111B on the RealTek website.

I have not installed that drivers yet. I wanna inquire first whether the
whole problem is because Suse Linux 10.0 cannot recognize my network card.
And I should reinstall the drivers.

Another question is whether the drivers I found is correct.

Many thanks.

Default Complement for network card: Asus P5PL2 - RTL8111B

In the network I am in, the machine automatically get IP via DHCP service.
There should be no any configuration problem, since my friends did not meet
this type of problem in their cases. However, the version they installed
was SUSE Linux 9.3.

Have you tried to configure the recognised card?

are there any errors reported?

You might need to enter the gateway address and DNS servers address but
that should be all, if you can though try with a static address and see
if that makes any difference.

How do you know it is not working?

What do you get if you enter ifconfig in a console as root after you
configure the card?

The drivers for that card are the ones SuSE had detected as far as I
know, you did not supply any info on the ones from the web site so I
cannot compare them.
