Default SuSE 10, DELL D810, Wireless Card no longer starts at boot

I have reinstalled SuSE 10 on my DELL D810 at least half a dozen times with
the same result. After the initial installation everything is perfect, I
mean PERFECT. The wireless card starts without fail. After the YaST Online
Update, the wireless card no longer works at boot-up. I have tried deleting
the card and reconfiguring in YaST, I tried not choosing certain things in
the update (too many to list). I end up having to open a terminal and run
"ifdown eth1" then "ifup eth1" to get it to work.

Wondering if anyone has an idea of a fix or have gone throug the same issue.

I have seen one other person asking the same but without info on what
patches were installed and version numbers I just have not got a clue
what might have caused this behaviour.

It could be DHCP, kernel, module loader, pcmcia system, usb, anything...

Bit more info is needed to even make an educated guess.

That's what I was afraid of. I thought about excluding patches and trying
it several times, but with all the work involved, it was just easier to
manually start the card with "ifdown" and "ifup".

I'll keep looking in the meantime.

Only thing I can think of that might help is if you have a look through:

/var/log/boot.msg

/var/log/messages

and see if it is getting an IP during boot ( that is if you are using
dhcp ) maybe it is timing out and needs longer to wait before it can be
initialised (?????)

Or maybe DHCP is not working early enough during boot an so the card is
"dead" until after you ifdown ifup (????)
