Default Networking suse 10 to suse 9.3 server

I'm running a home network (learning linux). So far I've got a server
running suse 9.3, have cups / samba running. With my windows xp machine I'm
able to print and access files on the server.

However with my Sony Vaio laptop. Running suse 10. I can't get access to
the server. It never shows when I try to browse the network. I am able to
get to the internet with no problem and can see the windows xp machine with
the laptop. But can't find the server.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I suppose you have the Samba username with Samba password
configured on the server? And that you log in with that username
and password on the Vaio?

I have setup the username and passwords for samba however it's not taking
the names when I log in with windows. This isn't a big problem yet. I'm
still able to pull files from the server.

The bigest problem is with the laptop running suse 10 I can't even get to
the printer.

Default Try ssh and fish

For connecting a SuSE pc to a SuSE pc, I simply use SSH and fish. In my
case on each SuSE PC I have openssh, openssh-askpass, and kssh installed.
I went to the SuSE firewall on each SuSE PC and opened it up for SSH.

Then I opened up a konqueror window and typed in the location bar:
fish://oldcpu@192.168.123.100 (where that is the IP address of the pc I am
trying to connect to, and "oldcpu" is the user name). ... Works very good
for me.
