Default Modem found but no access to internet

I'm a linux newbie and have just installed SuSe 10 on my Dell laptop. It
has found the winmodem and displays it in Yast. However when ever i try to
connect to the internet nothing happens. I have put in the details of my
ISP but do i have to input modem initialization strings? Currently these
are blank. If I do, where can i find the appropraite strings to put in.
Thanks

You probably don't need to worry about it. If it concerns you, you can
enter:

atz

in the first init string.

Are you sure you have all the settings correct in YaST? To do some
testing, you can install 'minicom' or 'seyon' and see if the modem is
responding.
