I am a new Linux user and I am very impressed!! It sure beats the pants
off of all of the M$ operating systems. I do have one problem though. I just installed SuSe 10.0 on my Compak Presario R3240US and I can't get my wireless card to work. The wireless card is onboard and I believe it is a Broadcom card. I think I located the driver on the Broadcom website. It's downloaded, but I have NO idea how to install it. If you could give me some pointers, that would help A LOT! Thanks ahead of time for your time and support. Aaron |

This will work, you just need to use the ndiswrapper program to use it under linux. It is available in YaST. Install it then see /usr/share/doc/packages/ndiswrapper/README.SUSE for more information on using it. -- Kirk Coombs |

I too have a Compaq with built-in Broadcom chipset.
I fiddled for days reading various instructions for gett the NDIS wrapper to work. Finally spent $15 for a Proxim wireless pcmcia card and have been happily wirelessing ever since :-) Worked right out of the box!!! > I am a new Linux user and I am very impressed!! Well continuing in this post only I would like to resolve my problem. I have an HP dv6700t special Edition laptop. I just ran the Live cd of Open SuSE 10.3 in order to check the compatibility of the OS with the system. All was working fine except the multimedia buttons (not a concern) and the wireless card. My wireless card is an Intel 4965 ABGN card and officially it works fine with SUSE. Knetwork was showing all the networks it was catching but I was unable to hook up even to one...even to one which was unencrypted one. Please help me resolve the situation. -- Parakh ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Parakh's Profile: http://forums.novell.com/member.php?userid=4664 View this thread: http://forums.novell.com/showthread.php?t=253735 |

The live trial disk tends to be lighter on drivers than a full install.
Also, there are a number of wireles drivers that are not avaialable in the base install, but can be added from community repositories after the base installation. If the card is on the supported list, you should expect to be able to make it work. -jt On Tue, 12 Feb 2008 08:36:02 +0000, Parakh wrote: > > Well continuing in this post only I would like to resolve my problem. Thanks James for the informative suggestion. I will try after installation of the operating system. -- Parakh ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Parakh's Profile: http://forums.novell.com/member.php?userid=4664 View this thread: http://forums.novell.com/showthread.php?t=253735 |
