Default Networking conf questions for Suse 10.0 noob.

Hi.

I'm new to Suse (mostly been using FC), but I thought I'd try out Suse
10.0. I've been pleasantly supprised by it so far. Now however I'm really
starting to get frustrated with the networking tool in Yast2.

As I use my laptop for configuring and monitoring some of my networking
hardware, I need to have several static manual network setups created.

However, no matter how I try to create them through the yast tool, I get
only the DHCP network connection working. Creating them manually doesn't
work either.

I get an errormessage stating that SIOCSIFFLAGS cannot set the requested
network address (even without having an ethernet cable connected).

If someone would post a working nondhcp conf-file for 10.0 I'd really
appreciate it

Are there available howto's or faq's on how to create several working
networking configurations in Suse 10? As this thing is driving me nuts, it
may force me to switch back to the distro I'm used to.

/thx from a Suse noob.

Have a look at the "Profile Manager" section in Yast>System, this is
used if you want to have separate configs for different
locations/situations, it is very handy if you have a wireless and a
wired nics and want to be able to switch between the 2 at a click, this
works for all types of configurations IIRC and so is not just limited
for networking stuff.

The "Profile Manager" is a front end to scpm and that has a brief man
page:

man scpm
