Default Wireless LAN on Laptop with SuSE 9.3

HI,
I have SuSE 9.3 installed on my Samsung X30 Notebook.

Installed WLAN Card: Intel PRO/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter

I configured this Card with YAST2, and made the same entries (DNS, IP,
Gateway) as I did in working Windows. But KInternet can't connect to the
Internet.

When I use a Network cable it works.

Does someone have experience with WLAN on Laptops?

Please try, as root in a console, the commands "ifup" and/or "ifdown". It
should show you the name of the wireless interface, next to all other
network interfaces; may be wlan0, but also some other name. Now give the
command "ifdown" to make sure all network interfaces are down. Then give
the command "ifup wlan0 -o debug", wlan0 may be replaced by the name of
your wireless interface, and report the output from this command.

I have made Screenshots from my Linux and Windows Configuration.
Both Systems run on my Laptop. Windows WLAN works with Windows, which I
use to access this forum.
I think this would explain better the situation.
Therefore I changed my (very) old Homepage - you can download the RAR
Archive under
http://juergenkemeter.ju.funpic.de/main.html

Cheers
Jürgen

One thing to check is that if you have a hardwire NIC card in the laptop it
has to be disabled while using the wifi card.

I set my NIC card to "On Cable Connect"

I'm a realative Suse noob but this seems very odd to me that Suse can't
deal with both at the same time......

Can you have a look in /var/log/messages and search for ipw2100 please
If you get an error -5 when the module is loaded then you may not have the
firmware installed.

Hi,
I have looked into the message-log, I saw that there was a driver
installed. I put the screenshot in my archive on my homepage.
I set my LAN Network Card to 'On Cable Connect', but didn't help.
Also, I added pictures of KInternet - it seems that it sees the Wireless
LAN, but when I try to connect and enter the WEP Key, it gives back
a 'Connection request failed' message.

Cheers,
Jürgen

Hi again,

Now I am a step further to the solution of the problem: Linux is case-
sensitive, therefore I changed the Network SSID from 'wireblinky'
to 'WireBlinky'!

The Wireless LAN is found and I am connected to it.
But the Internet doesn't work yet, I have tried Opera and YAST Update.

I added pictures 'KInternet_Found_WLAN.jpg' and 'BrowserOpera_Direct
Internet Connection.jpg' to my Archive on
http://juergenkemeter.ju.funpic.de/main.html

Cheers,
Jürgen

Do you have a fixed IP or do you use DHCP.

These pictures are not found; there is no link on your homepage.

You didn't get an IP address. Is your Ethernet NIC down? Try ifdown eth0,
ifdown eth1, ifup eth1.
If it doesn't work when only one card is up, try a fixed IP.
