I just did a clean install of Opensuse 10 beta 3 on my thinkpad x41. I
know that the wireless chip uses the ipw2200 module but I am not getting an indication that wireless is working. In yast I went to network interfaces and there is an interface set up that is supposedly using the ipw2200 module. In the terminal (as root) typing iwconfig shows that there are no interfaces with wireless extensions. In my last distro, Arch Linux, iwconfig would show eth1 as having a wireless extension. Somehow I'm not getting that so I'm a little lost as to where to go. I know suse is big on the gui tools and I'd like to just have my wireless setup work. Any idea where I should look to get this going? Thanks |

Still, wouldn't I get an error if I did modprobe ipw2200 and it didn't exist? Since I don't get an error doing that I think the problem is elsewhere. In fact I can modprobe -r ipw2200 and ieee80211 and modprobe them back in again to my hearts content without ever getting a wireless interface... |

AFAIK the firmware is a extra package. |

Hi all,
I have the same problem on my laptop. I tried it with echo 100 > /sys/class/firmware/timeout but without success. This was a proposal made on the ipw2200 website. Now I read this thread an wondered where to find this extra package? I already tried it with the ipw-firmware package for 9.3 but again no luck. It depends on Hotplug. So would you please tell me where to find this extra package for OpenSuse 10 Beta 3? Thanks in advance. > vince71@gmail.com wrote: > > > > >> http://ipw2200.sourceforge.net/ > >> > >> Does that help? > > > > I would be really surprised if ipw2200 wasn't already included in beta > > 10.3 but I guess it's > > possible.
