We are trying to make a wireless connection to the internet on this HP
ZE2113US laptop as described in http://www-uxsup.csx.cam.ac.uk/pub/d...ml#fig.ki.scan However, Suse does not seem to autodetect the 802.11b/g WLAN. We tried to set it up manually but still don't get the Scan for Wireless Networks screen. With the Windows XP in a separate partition on this computer we can just push the upper right wireless button on the keyboard to make a wireless connection. What is the solution? |

Is that a Speedbooster Wifi card? I think those use the broadcom chipset, you will need to use ndiswrapper and the windows drivers to get this one working, it is pretty easy to get ndiswrapper going, you just need to make sure you have ndiswrapper ( both rpms the application and the kernel module km_ndiswrapper ) the kernel source, make and gcc installed. Then follow the documentation on how to compile and load the windows driver. Have a look back over the last couple of weeks in the Pro group there are a few posts and instructions there, but if you get stuck just holler and someone will help. Problem solved: Where we went wrong on this was trying to update
ndiswrapper to 1.3rc1 without going through YaST. Originally we thought the Broadcom bcmwl5 driver was new & needed the ndiswrapper update but it has been widely used & supported by Suse in HP laptops for a long time. Once we reinstalled the original ndiswrapper in YaST add/remove software, getting on wireless networks thru kinternet was very easy- much more secure & user friendly than Windows. |
