Default K3B authority problem.

Asked this on alt.os.linux.suse but got no response.

SUSE 10.2, K3b 1.0.3 KDE 3.5.5 release 45.6

Is there a document that tells how to set up permissions so a user can
copy /boot and fstab to a CD? I looked on the web and it had items to use
k3Bsetup. Which does not appear to exist. Also found one that said look
under settings. Nothing there. I change the authority on the icon to run as
root but it gives errors and says to set up user .

Any help would be appreciated.

To get to K3bsetup, open K3B, go to the setup option.

K3B is a CD/DVD burning tool found in pretty much any KDE desktop, including
OpenSuse.

You should also be able to switch to the root user, and then burn it from
there.

Thanks for the response. I had already looked there. No k3bsetup option
under tools or setting configure k3b. I also looked at adding menu options.

Deleted 1.0.3 and installed 1.0.4 still no k3bsetup program. I used find and
searched whole system for k3bsetup. Only found k3bsetup.mo files in
opt/kde3/share/locale/various languages/LC_MESSAGES

linux-bt1m:/opt/kde3/share/locale/en_US/
it found: LC_MESSAGES (directory) and entry desktop (file).

LC_MESSAGES contained:

kfiledialog.mo krpmview.mo opensuseupdater.mo suseplugger.mo
kio_sysinfo.mo kwin_SUSE2.mo SUSEgreeter.mo susetranslations.mo

Should there be a k3bsetup.mo be there? Looking under en_GB it has an entry
for k3b.mo and k3bsetup.mo.

SUSE 10.2, K3b 1.0.4 KDE 3.5.5 release 45.6 installed from boxed 10.2 and
updated through YaST.

Any additional help would be appreciated.

Are you just starting K3B from the menu or trying to do it via the command
line?

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to do with K3B setup. As far as I
can see there's no provision in the K3B configuring program to change
permissions, either.

If you want to copy files to a CD, and they're owned by root, just switch
user to root. Then Start up K3B from the menu and burn the files you want
to CD. Log out and go back to regular user.

I just did that and copied /bin and /boot to CD while I was root.

Sorry have not responded sooner. Just got my system back to being able to
receive mail and news stuff. Had PS fan go out and some how my Raid drives
copied the empty drive to the data drive instead of the other way around. I
am having to restore everthing. Lucky I did a backup the day before using
k3b but did not get some of the files from root.

To answer your question I will try to startit from the command line, even
though I think I did try that. I have to figure our why every time I start
from KDM login as user it reboots. I deleted the user and recreated and it
still does it. I can look in as root through kdm fine then change sessions
and it recognizes my password. i remeber seeing something on this on the
suse news group, just have to find it. Since it comes back to the logon
screen each time I suspect it has to do with the password, even though Ive
changed it thru YaSt and still does it.

I try the k3b again to morrow. I know I reinstalled it and still do not see
the kebsetup script anywhere. One response I got said they though Novell
took it out.

Suggested I compile it myself, which I'll do when i get things back
together.

Thanks again

OK, though I wasn't suggesting you do it from the command line, I was trying
to find out if you were.

I'd just boot it as normal, then switch to the root users graphical desktop,
start k3b and burn my files - precisely so you don't have to muck about
changing permissions, etc. I Tried that on my Suse 10.2 setup and was able
to burn copies of /boot, /bin, etc.

I've never seen a k3b script, either. I've only ever seen the setup
configuration in settings.

Hope you make it all work.
