i'm not sure exactly what kind of info you need to help me out, but i'll
give you guys the situation, and let you tell me if you need more info. when i first installed suse 10.1, it started up ok, going into KDE no problem, then i got a new networking card, and piddled around with the settings somehow or another, and now the machine will start up no problem, but it will go to a text login instead of the graphical one. at this point, i login, then do a 'startx' to get it into KDE. at the end of it all it seems to be working ok, but i'm trying to find a way to avoid that part, because i'd like to be able to start it up, leave it unlogged in, but still in graphical mode. when i logout of KDE, it kicks me back out to the text screen. i've tried checking the init.d and so forth to try and see if runlevel 3 is started up somewhere, but all the places i checked, indicate that it should start level 5. any hints to where i should look? |

Ryan, It sounds like you display manager settings have been lost. Try running YaST|System|/etc/sysconfig Editor Goto Display Manager|DISPLAYMANAGER and set it to kdm. Next set DISPLAYMANAGER_STARTS_XSERVER and make sure it's set to yes Restart your xserver using init 3/init 5 and you should get the KDM login screen back. HTH Jim |

Ryan,
what default runlevel is set in Yast's runlevel editor? If you got an ATI/AMD or NVidia card, try installing the proprietary drivers. Uwe -- Novell Support Connection Volunteer SysOp Please don't send me support related e-mail unless I ask you to do so. |
