Default Beryl not working with openSUSE 10.2

I've installed openSUSE 10.2 on a Dell Precision M90 laptop. I have an
NVIDIA card (Quadro FX 1500M). I was previously running SLED 10 on the box
and the Compiz stuff worked just fine (could do all the OpenGL stuff). I
did get the NVIDIA drivers installed and working with openSUSE but the
Beryl Manager fails when I try to switch to the Beryl Window Manager. I
followed all the step-by-step procedures on the openSUSE site.

Troy,

which instructions exactly? Are you using compiz or not? If not, check if you added the necessary lines to your xorg.conf, "AllowGLXwithComposite" etc.

Although I know about the xorg.conf file, I'm not familiar with the syntax.
Is there a document/article that spells out what you are asking me?

Troy,

your card is older than a GeForce4, right? I am not sure it is supported at all, did you check this?

And again, which directions did you follow?

Instructions:
http://en.opensuse.org/Beryl

My card is the NVIDIA Quadro FX 1500M. I looked on the NVIDIA site and
don't see a correlation to GeForce so I'm not sure how to answer if it is
older than GeForce 4 or not!?

If compiz worked under SLED 10, doesn't that mean it work under openSUSE? I
can't get compiz to work either now that I'm running openSUSE... I'm using
Beryl Manager to try to choose the Compiz Window Manager which may not be
the right way to do that...??

Troy,

right as for compiz, not sure about Beryl.

So you did what was described under " Beryl with Xgl", NOT "Beryl without XGL", correct?
I had problems using the snapshot rpms, so I recommend you try the released versions.
Also make double sure the NVidia driver is running. Before you start from scratch, delete the .beryl directory from your /home

yes, it should. I had issues trying to get it working properly on 10.1 -
http://www.thejemreport.com/mambo/content/view/254/ got it running for me,
and you should read thru it before reading the one for 10.2 - I found that
having done it the hard way on 10.1 made it easier on 10.2.
http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/17174.html

for 10.2, here is a good article on installing the video driver (the
compiz and other modules in 10.2 appear to be up to date) - I think it is
important to add the http://packman.unixheads.com/suse/10.2 installation
source so that you can get the latest updates.

After I got the video driver installed, I went into Gnome (i don't care
for gnome, but it does make it easier to turn on desktop effects) and
checked that I had 3d acceleration enabled, then I turned on desktop
effects and rebooted - it came back up with the cube and the other fun
stuff

hope this is helpful - I couldn't find anything at Novell on Beryl other
