Hi all,
what´s wrong with the performance of Konqueror when loading a webpage? Since Suse 10.0 it has taken incredibly long to load even a simple page. Firefox and Opera behave normal, i.e. they load pages with a reasonable speed. I hoped the problem would get fixed within vers. 10.2 but unfortunately nothing has improved in this regard. Is there any known bottleneck I have to bypass or deactivate? |

Try disabling IPv6. I usually do this from YaST>/etc/sysconfig/Editor. Malke -- Keep to the code. |

Not thrashing, but irritating, and a much crisper response all round since stopping the daemon. -- Bob SuSE Linux 10.1, KDE 3.5.1 http://bhf.demon.co.uk/linux/tricks.html |

The first time after installation there was long disk search, but not after that. That seems more like device check that is present all the time even when Beagle and zmd are removed from the system. Back to topic: The IPv6 can be disabled in YaST--Network Devices--Network Card--<either configuration method> Select card, press "Edit" button, press "Advanced" and IPv6. Check "Disable" and finish edit. This makes possible to use or not use IPv6 per network interface. If Konqueror is still slow go to Personal Settings in Main Menu, browse to "Internet and Network" and select Proxy. On the right screen default is "Use preset proxy environment variables" use that or "Connect to the Internet directly". -- Regards, Rajko. http://en.opensuse.org/Portal |

I've just disabled IPv6 as described above, restarted the Beagle daemon, and Konqueror is fast enough ![]() -- Bob SuSE Linux 10.1, KDE 3.5.1 http://bhf.demon.co.uk/linux/tricks.html |

People blame Beagle for slowness and call it resource hog, which was the issue before. Looking in it's purpose, it can't be that bad all the time. Once it has indexed directories that you want to be indexed, there is not much hard disk activity. If you see Beagle using to much CPU that it is a bug, not normal status. There are cases where user runs SUSE on slow machine with little memory, than any service running in background that one can live without should be disabled, not only indexing ie. Beagle. Have a fun and happy new year. -- Regards, Rajko. http://en.opensuse.org/Portal |
