Default artsd lives after log off

After logging out of KDE, I still have the artsd process hanging around.
One result is automount does not unmount the home directory when it should.

arts-1.5.3-8.1
kdebase3-3.5.3-28.1
kdemultimedia3-arts-3.5.3-16.5

Active process is"
/opt/kde3/bin/artsd -F 10 -S 4096 -s 5 -m artsmessage -c drkonqi -l 3 -f

Anyone have a suggestion for ensuring that all user processes are terminated
when the user logs out?
