Default Many questions with 10.1

1) I installed the ati 9800 se drivers and the system found the card. How
do I get the system to use those drivers?

2) I downloaded WINE for suse 10.1. When I click on "Install Package
using Yast" The system procedes to install the package on the cd-rom.

3) I click on Online update. It says that I have "X" number of packages
to install. I click on continue then the screen goes away. I tryed it a
couple of times. After about the 4th or 5th try it downloaded them and
installed them. I restart my computer then checked the online updates and
the same packages are there to install. I click on continue then the
screen closes.

Thanks for your time.

One more thing. I have two processors on my board, the SMP kernal
installed. When I open My Computer it only shows one. Is that a problem?

Look at this guide: http://www.suse.de/~sndirsch/ati-installer-HOWTO.html

It seems to me that you would prefer to install stuff off of the internet,
instead of the CDs, in that case, open up YaST, go to Software -->
Installation Sources, click on the CD source and hit the "Enable and
Disable" button, if you have another CD source, disable that too.
Now click on "Add" and sekect "Specify URL", enter this:
http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...1/inst-source/
And click OK, when that's done, do the same for:
http://download.opensuse.org/distrib...s-inst-source/
When you're looking at the list of sources, click on Finish, and then go
into Software Management, search for "wine" (Without the quotes of course),
right click on it and select install and click on Accept, and you're done.

When you open up Online Update, you'll notice that the packages are not
marked, in the case of the opera patch, if you don't already have Opera
installed, it won't be marked for installation, because why attempt to
install a patch when there is nothing to patch, right?
If you have a program installed that there is a patch for, it should be
marked automatically and installed when you click on "Accept", and when
it's installed it will still show up as a patch, but it won't be marked for
installation.

It just shows what processor you have, it doesn't show the number of
processors as far as I know.

What can I say? You hand control to a big company only for them
to needlessly increase the complexity and then you find that it
breaks easily. All pretty pathetic really.

Sorry, but you are talking complete rubbish here. I /do/ have the
applications installed, the updates /are/ ticked and it /still/
fails.

The question would fit the install-configuration forum much better, since it isn't really KDE related.

Stop the zen-updater (just quit).
Open a console, become root with "su" and type
rug ua -r yourusername
then type
+superuser
and hit Enter twice. Now start the zen-updater applet again. Can you update now?

1) I already installed the drivers. The system has tagged the card at
secondary. How do I get the system to use the drivers as primary?

It sounds to me, like you used the ATi Windows-style graphical installer to
install the driver, if this is the case, uninstall the driver and u se the
procedure described in the HOWTO I posted a link to, as it is the proper
way of installing the ATi driver on SUSE Linux.
