Default /etc/service is needed

i was trying to install a l2tp package to connect to the internet on suse 10.
i could connect to cables lan , and i downloaded the l2tp.rpm file i was
supposed to run rpm -i <the file> but i couldent due to dependecies conflict
and the reason was that the etc/service is needed.

obviously i am rookie in linux. and i couldnt find this file on the net to
put it in the /etc/ folder .

can any one tell me how can i get the file and how i install this package .

I think what you are looking for is /etc/services, with an S. That file
is provided by the netcfg RPM, and can be found almost anywhere on the
internet.

The l2tp package you downloaded, is it designed for SuSE 10? Most RPMs
are distribution specific and will not work across different distributions.
