I just did a clean reinstall of SuSE 10.0 to correct some major problems.
All of those problems have been corrected. However, while I was in the process of installing the packages and dependencies to use k3b with mp3 files and being able to use various players to play AVI, WMA, and divx encoded files, Konqueror lost the ability to deal with .rpm and .pdf files. Konqueror sees these files as Netscape multimedia files. It tries, unsuccessfully, to open them in real player 10. The .pdf files can be opened by right clicking the file and using the open with dialog to select the proper program. I can successfully install .rpm files using Konsole. The .pdf and .rpm files appear to be the only file types affected. I have accomplished my goal of playing all types of media files, and using mp3s with k3b. However, I need to find a way to correct the file associations to have .pdf files opened by the appropriate program, and .rpm files properly recognized by Konqueror. |

Check in the Settings>Configure Konqueror>File Association menu of Konqueror + or in Control Centre>KDE Components>File Association, in application look at pdf and see what is set for the Embeddeg, here I have KPDF ( kpdf_part ) at the top of the list with Show file in embedded viewer and Ask to save checked. There is also x-rpm in that list which has: KRPMView (krpmview) and the same boxes checked. IIRC I had this happen on one machine, and it was down to the netscape plugin being first in the list for some reason ( long time ago though so not exactly sure how or why it happened ) I just moved it down the list. Wales, UK > Novell Support Forums SysOp > On the pdf files, nspluginviewer was on the list, but at the bottom. I removed it. However, I still have the same problem with pdf files. The rpm files had nothing associated with the nspluginviewer. In addition, when I try to open these files the normal way, the KDE crash handler gives me the following: The application unknown (nspluginviewer) crashed and caused the signal 11 (SIGSEGV). The backtrace has the following: (no debugging symbols found) Using host libthread_db library "/lib/tls/libthread_db.so.1". I have a feeling that my problem is not in Konqueror, but someplace else. I have no idea where. |

Now .pdf files open automagically in the pdf reader. However, they retain their netscape icon. It appears though that the system believes that .rpm files are audio files. I'm not sure what settings I need for these. |

I'm not sure what settings I need for these. Now I got the .rpm files working correctly. In the properties of the rpm file I added YaST to the top of the application preference order. However, in the indoemation bar at the top of the properties screen, the system thinks that these are x-pn files. I'm not sure what that means. Both .rpm and .pdf files retain the netscape icon in Konqueror. I'm not sure how to change this. |
