Default Star Office in SuSe10 64 ?

Is it possible to install Star Office 8 in the KDE version of SuSe linux 10
64b ?
Of course I tried, following the getting started guide of Star Office,
which is:
1) open a shell or terminal window
2) as a normal user enter the following command: xhost +
3) become a superuser.enter su - to become a superuser
4) set the DISPLAY variable to point to your machine.
enter the following command: export DISPLAY=your_machine_name:0.0
5) change to the directory that contains the StarOffice 8 installation
program. {Which is As I believe:
file:///home/bob/downloads/Star_Office/so-8-pp1-eval-bin-linux-en-US.sh }

6) Start the setup script. Enter the following command: ./setup

I did this all and nothing happens. The man pages say that setup is a
command I should not use.
So how to install this trial version of StarOffice?
I want to try StarOffice because in the presentation program of Open Office
it seems not to be possible to use animations in the presentation. And I do
need them. With animations I mean short educational video's or flash
animations, NOT animations of the slides or between the slides. If someone
could tell me how get video's or Flash animations into Open office I would
not need Star Office.

1-4 can be done with just one command:

sux

This configures the Xserver to allow root acces to run on the localhost
display, no extra switches or options just sux

As to the rest I do not know as I do not have that StarOffice here but
maybe doing the above command might show something.

I used the command sux then I went to the folder in which the setup script
for Star office is situated and did the command ./setup, nothing happens,
also not other variations on the theme. Look below for a copy of what I tried.
linux:/home/bob/downloads/Star_Office # ./setup
bash: ./setup: Onbekend bestand of map
linux:/home/bob/downloads/Star_Office # setup
bash: setup: command not found
linux:/home/bob/downloads/Star_Office # ./setup
file:///home/bob/downloads/Star_Office/so-8-pp1-eval-bin-linux-en-US.sh
bash: ./setup: Onbekend bestand of map
linux:/home/bob/downloads/Star_Office #
linux:/home/bob/downloads/Star_Office #
Star_Office/so-8-pp1-eval-bin-linux-en-US.sh
bash: Star_Office/so-8-pp1-eval-bin-linux-en-US.sh: Onbekend bestand of map
linux:/home/bob/downloads/Star_Office # ./setup
so-8-pp1-eval-bin-linux-en-US.sh
bash: ./setup: Onbekend bestand of map
linux:/home/bob/downloads/Star_Office #

You see no succes.

Howreover I have my doubts if the 64 bits version of Suse swallows the 32
bits version of Star Ofice,

I don't know much about this but On my 64 bit system there is a "Linux 32
bit Konsole" besides the ordinary KDE Konsole, Could it be meant for
situations like yours?

I'm also a bit curious, what's in StarOffice which is not in OpenOffice?

In the Windows version of Impress, the presentation part of Open Office,
you can insert video's (multimedia), like in Microsoft Powerpoint. This is
usefull for me because I give astronomy presentations in a public
observatory.I can than show a.o the landings on the moon or the Mars rovers
in action to our public. This possibility, to introduce video's in Impress
is absent in the Linux version, may be a matter of rights. Because giving
astronomy presentations is one of my main activities, the whole Suse Linux
distribution becomes less interesting to me. From the advertisemnts, I
gather that Star office has the possibility to introduce video's, that why
I want to try their evaluation offer, If OpenOffice could be updated with
the mentioned possibility I would also be helped.

OK, gottcha.

Did you try to execute the StarOffice installation script in the 32 bit
console?

Can you supply a dir listing of the setup directory please with

ls

or is there just the one file:

file:///home/bob/downloads/Star_Office/so-8-pp1-eval-bin-linux-en-US.sh

Normally you cd to where that file is and run the .sh file with a
command like this:

sh ./so-8-pp1-eval-bin-linux-en-US.sh

that will then take you through the install procedure, this is all guess
work here though as I do not have the StarOffice to look at.

As far as I can tell the installation instructions are just plain wrong.

From the directory where so-8-pp1-eval-bin-linux-en-US.sh is, I did
sux, then bash ./so-8-pp1-eval-bin-linux-en-US.sh and it started the
installer.

I think that is what I was trying to say Timothy but as I do not have
the StarOffice installer I was not sure if there might have been a
small /setup/ script that might have checked things first like if it
was being run as root with X permissions etc.. before it ran the

../so-8-pp1-eval-bin-linux-en-US.sh

Thanks for the clarification though.

I did as was told above, with bash and it worked. So I succeeded to install
