Suse linux 10 - problem with usb memory stick

I just helped a friend install suse linux 10 64 bit on his HP L2000
notebook. The install went fine, but when he inserts a memory stick into
the notebook, it does not show up in "MY Computer" or does a konquerer
window pop up in KDE. The media does get mounted, since when we cd to
/media, there it is under the media name. Any ideas as to what's wrong
with this??

Do you see the icon appear on the desktop?

I get an icon for a usb removable device pop up on my desktop.

Mark,

I don't see an icon on the desktop. When my friend brings his laptop on
Tuesday, we will check again. Any other ideas to try would be appreciated.

Have you got the icons enabled in

Control Center>Desktop>Behaviour>Device Icons?

I just have the mounted one enabled so that it pops up when the
drive/stick/card is plugged in.
