Default Cool KDE Desktop

I'm a Linux newbie and have switched from Gnome to KDE and just wanted to
share some of the cool stuff I've been able to do (with help from my
friends) with my desktop and see if any of you out there would share some
of your cool stuff.

XPLANET:
___________
I'm running xplanet with the following command:
xplanet --geometry %xx%y -longitude -60 -latitude 15 --num_times 1 -config
config.kim -radius 20 -starmap BSC --output %f.jpg && mv %f.jpg %f

I have it refresh every 5 minutes.

In this configuration I can see the moon and once in a while some other
planets and stars. I see North America and Western Europe.

SUPERKARAMBA:
____________
I'm running Superkaramba with the following two modules:

Liquid Weather which shows my local current weather conditions plus a
forcast, weathermaps, and webcams for my local area.

KirambaSUSE_1 which shows CPU/Memory/Upload/Download usage in a nice little
bar graph.

Oh...and I have to mention, I really like the ability to center click on the
tool bar clock and have it cycle through major time zones.

All in all, it makes for a nice desktop. What do you have?

Actually, I'm using KDE 3.5.0. You can use that if you add the complimentary
installation source to YaST.

AeroG, a set of Superkaramba widgets (on KDE 3.5). Pretty useless if you
have to actually work with the machine, but it looks SO cool if the desktop
is empty <G>

I can find RPMs, but no explanation of what it is in Google. It's not even
listed on the Superkaramba site.

Hello Kim,

Sorry to say but you didn't google well. I found this explanation on the
first page.

http://forum.moddingplanet.it/printthread.php?t=3728

I don't speak italian but the header tells me enough.

good luck, Arie

http://kdelook.org, check the "Karamba" link in the very left (blue) frame.
Search for AeroG.
Sometimes a screenshot says more than thousand words :-)

I've played with several things, but can't find any better background
than 'Walking with Orion":

http://www.fabuloussavers.com/wallpapers/290s.shtml

I just never get tired of that! Many other nice wallpapers there, too.
Just be sure to pick the correct resolution for your desktop.

Then I have 'gkrellm' running to monitor the system -- there are many
themes/skins for this one, as well.

That's about it for my KDE desktop. My icewm desktop is pretty spartan
and my wm2 desktop is just a standard, dark gray. If you want to see
*spartan*, install and try out 'wm2'. ;-)
