Hi all,
I had a CD Burner, but it's capacity was not enough for me. So I bought myself a Philips DVD writer (DVDR1628 Internal DVD ReWriter, YASTs sees it as a DVDR1648P1) to burn DVD's under Linux. After changing the hardware in my computer, I started my (Suse 9.2) Linux system. I added the hardware in Yast (--> Hardware --> CD-Rom Drives, select the appropriate line and press the Add button, followed by the Finish button). By the way, before I changed the hardware I manually removed the old burners software using Yast2. To burn my first DVD, I started K3b To check whether the new hardware was available under K3b I choose Project --> Properties. Under the first tab page, the drop down box for the Burning Device has no contents. When I want to burn a DVD anyway I get the message "No Writer Available" and "K3b did not find a suitable writer. You will only be able to create an image". Who knows what I need to do to make my new burner known in K3b Mac |

So the question now is how I can burn DVDs as user. FWIW, some information: cat /etc/fstab /dev/hda9 / reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 1D <SNIP> /dev/dvd /media/dvd subfs fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=ut f8 0 0 /dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs fs=floppyfss,procuid,nodev,nosuid,sync 0 0 /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom subfs fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=ut f8 0 0 /dev/dvdrecorder/media/dvdrecorder subfs fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=ut f8 0 0 |

Depending on your k3b version it should be in the menus under Settings>K3b Setup ( this is on 10 with k3b 0.12.8 ) It probably will need to re-configure the burning permissions on cdrecord and cdrdao. I do think it is a question of the permissions. Might you know how I can change these? Mac |
