Have a laptop with WXGA screen [1280x800]. I have configured this with
SAX2. I have nice WXGA resolution durring the posting process and login screen. Once I login-- KDE reverst back to XGA [1024x768]. Right mouse click on desktop --> Configure Desktop Click on Display ICON on left. Size & Orientation TAB Screen Size Cyclic gives 3 options: 1024x768 800x600 640x480 The nice WXGA [1280x800] is NOT available even though I have configured this with SAX2!!! On earlier versions of KDE-- this was not as issue because KDE used the resolution established by /etc/X11R6/XF86Config ro what now appears to be /etc/X11/xorg.conf I'm confused. You HAVE to set the resolution and get everything working in X before you even look at getting a desktop working. I've got that--- but now my desktop [KDE] is forcing me to have a lower resolution. Between google and KDE.org-- I'm at a loss. There should be a nice resource file that can be edited-- or there should be a way to let KDE follow along with the SAX2 or the X11 configuration-- but I can't find a clean correlation between the resource files and the screen size option menu. I'd rather have the 1024x768 for the posting process and the 1280x800 for my working desktop sessions. Justin Gedge |

You could be configuring 16bit sizes but using 24bit and so not have the resolutions configured. While in sax2 make sure you configure every colour depth for every resolution you want to use. One can choose any of resolutions that are offered by X server. HTH -- Regards, Rajko. |

Is this SUSE Linux 10.0? If it is, there is a bug where every time you enter SAX2 that the settings are reset. This bug is currently being worked on. |

That is why xorg.conf should be copied with some extension that system doesn't use, before any configuration activity. -- Regards, Rajko. |

Hi Justin, have you tried to add symlink named XF86config that will point to xorg.conf. #cd /etc/X11 #ln -s xorg.conf XF86config -- Regards, Rajko. |
