Well, asterisk *is* a service, isn't it?

So you could just write an rc script /etc/init.d/asterisk based on the

template file /etc/init.d/skeleton. This has the added benefits that
a) it provides a place for proper shutdown as well and
b) you'll be able to start/stop asterisk from YaST.
