If you have system beeps and startup sounds then you sound is working, I am wondering if you have something muted. Try running alsaconf as root from a console to see if that helps. did not really work. alsaconf finally played a nice sound. but ....
See the attached SoundSystem.png -> "Midi testen" is still not working. When im starting the graphical alsaplayer ---> see the attached alsaplayer.png 28: PCI 1f.5: 0401 Multimedia audio controller [Created at pci.273] Unique ID: W60f.0yY84rcFqd7 SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.5 SysFS BusID: 0000:00:1f.5 Hardware Class: sound Model: "Micro-Star International 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller" Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" Device: pci 0x24d5 "82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller" SubVendor: pci 0x1462 "Micro-Star International Co., Ltd." Any other ideas? baskitcaise schrieb: > Alfred Sabitzer adjusted his/her tinfoil beanie and donned asbestos> underwear to post: > > >>Yast->Sound and Multimedia -> Sound System -> Sound testen >>--> Works fine >>Yast->Sound and Multimedia -> Sound System -> Midi testen >>--> Absolutly nothing. >> >>This means in real Live, that i get System-Beeps (login sound and so >>on), but nothing when trying to hear radion, watch tv or listen to >>CD's. >> >>I also dont know how to start the audio driver >> >>Any Ideas > > > Volume controls? > > If you have system beeps and startup sounds then you sound is working, I > am wondering if you have something muted. > > Try running alsaconf as root from a console to see if that helps. > > HTH |

IIRC the midi test does not work for a lot of the alsa drivers, it does not work here for either of my 2 soundcards ( SB/Live & onboard AC`97 ) which are activated at boot as I use them both at the same time, for midi I have to use a software synth. This however will not affect the playing of CD`s or listening to the radio or TV. > > When im starting the graphical alsaplayer ---> see the attached > alsaplayer.png > > 28: PCI 1f.5: 0401 Multimedia audio controller > [Created at pci.273] > Unique ID: W60f.0yY84rcFqd7 > SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.5 > SysFS BusID: 0000:00:1f.5 > Hardware Class: sound > Model: "Micro-Star International 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 > Audio > Controller" > Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" > Device: pci 0x24d5 "82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller" > SubVendor: pci 0x1462 "Micro-Star International Co., Ltd." > SubDevice: pci 0x0080 > Revision: 0x02 > Driver: "Intel ICH" > I/O Ports: 0xc800-0xc8ff (rw) > I/O Ports: 0xc400-0xc43f (rw) > Memory Range: 0xf7fffa00-0xf7fffbff (rw,non-prefetchable) > Memory Range: 0xf7fff900-0xf7fff9ff (rw,non-prefetchable) > IRQ: 201 (339079 events) > Driver Info #0: > Driver Status: i810_audio is not active > Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe i810_audio" > Driver Info #1: > Driver Status: snd-intel8x0 is active > Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe snd-intel8x0" > Config Status: cfg=yes, avai > > I still think, that it has something to do with Driver-Status for > Driver Info #0. Now let me go and check something here, I think it could be down to the fact that the i810 is loading twice and is giving you 2 souncards, I have seen some reports about the ICH5 chipset somewhere, I think I came across this problem also and hacked it to death to get rid of it, I cannot remember exactly what I did now. What machine/hardware are you running this on, is it a laptop? Have you got an onboard modem? HTH -- Mark Novell Support Forums SysOp Twixt hill and high water N. Wales, UK. Its an ordinary Desktop (and there is no modem at all). But the
Networkcard is integrated on the motherboard. Fact is, that i cant hear anything in any "audio-applikation" (eg. kaffeine, kdetv, kradio .....). And i dont think that there is something muted (kmix says so). Isn't there something like an "install-verification" or so? best regards baskitcaise schrieb: > Alfred Sabitzer adjusted his/her tinfoil beanie and donned asbestos> underwear to post: > > >>did not really work. alsaconf finally played a nice sound. but ....>>See the attached SoundSystem.png -> "Midi testen" is still not >>working. > > > IIRC the midi test does not work for a lot of the alsa drivers, it does > not work here for either of my 2 soundcards ( SB/Live & onboard > AC`97 ) which are activated at boot as I use them both at the same> time, for midi I have to use a software synth. > > This however will not affect the playing of CD`s or listening to the > radio or TV. > > > >>When im starting the graphical alsaplayer ---> see the attached >>alsaplayer.png >> >>28: PCI 1f.5: 0401 Multimedia audio controller >> [Created at pci.273] >> Unique ID: W60f.0yY84rcFqd7 >> SysFS ID: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1f.5 >> SysFS BusID: 0000:00:1f.5 >> Hardware Class: sound >> Model: "Micro-Star International 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 >> Audio >>Controller" >> Vendor: pci 0x8086 "Intel Corporation" >> Device: pci 0x24d5 "82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller" >> SubVendor: pci 0x1462 "Micro-Star International Co., Ltd." >> SubDevice: pci 0x0080 >> Revision: 0x02 >> Driver: "Intel ICH" >> I/O Ports: 0xc800-0xc8ff (rw) >> I/O Ports: 0xc400-0xc43f (rw) >> Memory Range: 0xf7fffa00-0xf7fffbff (rw,non-prefetchable) >> Memory Range: 0xf7fff900-0xf7fff9ff (rw,non-prefetchable) >> IRQ: 201 (339079 events) >> Driver Info #0: >> Driver Status: i810_audio is not active >> Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe i810_audio" >> Driver Info #1: >> Driver Status: snd-intel8x0 is active >> Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe snd-intel8x0" >> Config Status: cfg=yes, avai >> >>I still think, that it has something to do with Driver-Status for >>Driver Info #0. > > > Now let me go and check something here, I think it could be down to the > fact that the i810 is loading twice and is giving you 2 souncards, I > have seen some reports about the ICH5 chipset somewhere, I think I came > across this problem also and hacked it to death to get rid of it, I> cannot remember exactly what I did now. > > > What machine/hardware are you running this on, is it a laptop? > > Have you got an onboard modem? > > HTH > > |

Your sound is obviously working as you have system sounds therefore Istill reckon that a mixer is muted somewhere. HTH -- Mark Novell Support Forums SysOp Twixt hill and high water N. Wales, UK.
