HI Donita

It would be better to just create blank partitions, do not format
them,
Suse should make the right suggestion during the install, for a
default
install you only need 1 swap partition approx 2 X memory and the restfor the actual system.

I would if it was me, this time though please make a note of the error

messages if it happens again, it may look gibberish to you but we
might
understand it, very hard to find the problem if we don`t know what
happens :-)

This is the message i received: waiting for device /dev/sda6 to
appear...not found -- device nodes: console disk fb0 fd0 full hda ...

input kmem ... and it goes on and on.

Question: How do i get to that partition where Suse resides? I can't
see
that partition in windows My Computer anymore and since Suse is not
working i can't get to it from there.

If you boot from the install disk again and after entering the
language
and keyboard you should be offered some options, one will be to
"Repair" the installation, let it do a full repair and see what it
says
is wrong.

When I boot from the CD drive with the Suse install disk, the computer

goes straight to the dual boot screen. I hit "F12" and chose the
correct
option to boot from the CD Rom. I even hit "F2" to go into Setup and

change the order of the boot sequence. It still did not get me to the

original installation screen. Is there a boot option that i can type

into the boot option field on the dual boot screen to get it to redo
the
install again? What can i do?

Hi Donita,

How did you install in the first place?

Have you changed the boot order in the bios back to hard-drive first?

Default Re: New to Linux - Installation Problem

To install i rebooted the system with the install disk in the drive.

During the reboot i hit the "F12" key to get the boot menu. I changed

the boot to the CD drive hit the Enter key and the computer booted
(from
the CD drive) and the linux screen was displayed. I selected the
language and the install proceeded. After the install was complete,
the
system rebooted and the dual boot screen was displayed. I selected
Suse
and Suse started with what looked like normal startup messages on the

screen until the system just stopped with the message i posted in an earlier post.

After you told me to redo the install i rebooted the system and hit
the "F12" key to boot from the CD Rom again but instead the dual boot

screen was displayed. I rebooted the system again but this time i hit

the "F2" key to change the boot sequence. The system rebooted but yet

again the dual boot screen was displayed. As of today i have not
changed
the boot sequence back to hard drive.

For some reason i think i had to take the CD out of the drive and put
it
back in again. I got the screen that said "Rescue System" (i'm
assuming
this is the equivalent of Repair) but then it asks me for a login and

password and i have no idea what to enter.

No, it's not. Select normal installation and answer the first few (I
think it's two) screens -- about language and keyboard -- and then you

should get a dialog box that has, as one of it's selections, 'Repair
installed system'. Select that and the select 'Auto' or all (something

like that). It can be time-consuming, so be patient! :-)

Okay i found the repair utility. It could not verify the packages so
i
auto repaired and then updated the packages and rebooted. It still
did
not work. The last message says no root device found; exiting to
/bin/sh
and then the cursor just sits there. What can i do now?

I redid the repair again and the "yast2-trans-en" package could not be

installed. I'm not sure what that package is but will it affect the ability of Suse to boot up? Could it be I have a bad install disk? Should i redo the entire install again? I keep getting the same
messages
when Suse starts and the cursor just sits there?
