Suse can see all partitions on your HD, but default proposal assumes
that you would like to use whole hard disk for Suse.

Using Expert Partitioning you'll be presented with what installer
actually have found, but be warned that *Expert* *Partitioning*
requires some previous knowledge. It is absolutely not place to learnpartitioning. Just guessing can render your computer unbootable and
data lost.

This is based on 9.2 version.

During installation:

Screen:Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*InstallationÂ*Settings

1.) Click on section title "Partitioning" and it brings another screen

with title "Suggested Partitioning", where one can choose from three
options:
Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*oÂ*AcceptÂ*proposalÂ*as-is
Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*oÂ*BaseÂ*partitionÂ*setupÂ*onÂ*thi sÂ*proposalÂ*
-->Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*oÂ*CreateÂ*customÂ*partitionÂ*setupÂ*

Check third option "Create custom partition setup" and click "Next".
Note: If you click on button "Change" installer will assume that you
want to change proposal and it will present next screen based on
proposal to use whole hard disk. This button is usefull if you want
to abandon all changes you made, and start from the initial
installation settings. Click Change and than select Reset, and you'llhave the same settings as you would after booting from installation
screen.

2.) On next screen (title "Preparing Hard Disk -- Step 1") SuSE is
asking to choose the disk. Options could be like:
Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*oÂ*1:Â*IDE (and than hard disk data)
Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*oÂ*2:Â*....Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*
-->Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*oÂ*CustomÂ*partitioningÂ*-Â*forÂ*expertsÂ*

Check "Custom partitioning - for experts" and click "Next".

3.) Next screen (title "Expert Partitioner") gives you list of all
disks and partitions on your system.

For more details about partitioning you can read:
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/Partition/

and for many other issues you have index on the same server
http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDEX/howtos.htmles in LiLo, or

HOWTOs are usefull to understand basics, but given examples are oftenoverrun by very fast development in Linux and computers.
