Not 100% sure on this but I have seen a couple of people who have trouble with this card, are there any messages in the /var/log/ (boot, warn, messages etc...) files. You could try putting it in another pci slot, which slot is it in now? ( if it is in the one underneath the AGP slot then it will need moving ) Have a look in Yast>Hardware>Hardware info and see if it is actually an IRQ problem, it could be something else that is causing this. I saw a site the other day about the 24bit Audigy, apparently if you bought it before the end of 2004 you might be in for a refund, Creative have acknowledged that it does not live (sic) up to the specs on the box, here is just one site that points it out:- http://www.engadget.com/entry/1234000387037132/ -- Mark Novell Support Forums SysOp Twixt hill and high water N. Wel it means that it has been assigned an IRQ of 169 which I don`t think wil conflict with others. I am just looking through your logs will post back after seeing if anything is there and I have had my supper :-) -- Mark Novell Support Forums SysOp Twixt hill and high water N. Wales, UK. |

I do know that a lot of people have problems with the 24bit version but have not tried one myself. I notice that the onboard sound it already loaded during boot, this is using the via82xx module, also there are a lot of unused running services, nfs, isdn and smbfs, are you using the powersave? going to ask some stupid questions just to make sure I am understanding what I see:- How many hard-drives do you have? Are you using samba to talk to other windows machines on a local network? Same with nfs, are you talking to other linux boxes on a local network? Have you got anything plugged into the serial ports? Same with the parallel port? Quick things to do before you post back:- If you have nothing on the serial & parallel ports disable them in the bios, same with the SATA controller also turn off the onboard sound in the BIOS ( to free up the IRQ`s and stuff just incase of conflicts ) If you are not using samba or nfs then use Yast>System>Runlevel Editor and go to Expert mode and disable them from running by clicking on them and un-checking the runlevel numbers below ( this will not cure the sound but will stop un-used services from running. Try and boot and see if it makes any difference, if not reboot and enter acpi=off at the first grub boot screen ( the one with the countdown marker, just start typing and you will see it appear in the box half way down the screen ) see if that makes any difference. Hopefully it might fix it. HTH -- Mark Novell Support Forums SysOp Twixt hill and high water N. Wales, UK. |

I only have 1 hard drive, not on any network (just my broadband connection) I then rebooted, tryed to install my sound balster using yasy, sound card, configer, i still got the same error as before! aaaaaaaah! |

Did booting with the acpi=off make any difference? Also you could try to use alsaconf, as root in a console run:- alsaconf and see if it will configure the card or post any errors please, I have got to go out for a while but will be back later. -- Mark Novell Support Forums SysOp Twixt hill and high water N.
