It wasn't bad, but the new one is better, version 1.0-7167. Unfortunately, if you install that by hand, you get a report of a known bug with kernels before 2.6.11. Since the released update kernels for SuSE 9.2 only go up to 2.6.9, that's a problem. Fortunately for you, the updates for "9.2.9" also include a 2.6.11 kernel, and the kernel-of-the-day site from SuSE provide 2.6.11 kernels. You'll need to update your mkinitrd and hwinfo to go with the new kernel, but if you really want the best performance out of your NVidia card, I recommend spending the time to do the updates. Do you need FTP site pointers for them? > The problem is, whenever I exit X Windows, the display "crashes" - the > display becomes garbled, and the screen is filled with reddish orange > blocks. I think you should update the kernel first, then use the latest NVidia published update tool since the YaST one is invariably out of date within 2 months after the OS is published. |

Thanks, I'll do that and see if it helps. Yeah, some FTP pointers,
and/or a link to an official how-to from SuSe would help. Thanks a lot. > > <senthil@rocketmail.com> wrote in message > news:S6b1e.144$GG3.92@prv-forum3.provo.novell.com... > > Hi all, > > I'm running SuSe 9.2 Pro x86_64 on an AMD Athlon 64 machine, kernel > > 2.6.8.x > > (I believe, I can check) with the default X.org and KDE 3.3 that came with > > SuSe 9.2 Pro. Working from Boston, I go here to get the mkinitrd and other updates ftp://mirror.etf.bg.ac.yu/pub/distri.../people/agruen And I go here to get the latest x86_64 kernels of the day: ftp://mirror.etf.bg.ac.yu/pub/distri...el/kotd/x86_64 And I go here to get the SuSE "9.2.9" updatesm, which include a very nice and working 2.6.11.2 kernel. rsync://mirror.cs.utah.edu/suse/i386/update/9.2.9/ |
