Yep the support is in the kernel, you need to run some user space
stuff
though to get the benefit, cpuspeed ( comes under cpufreqd ) is one
that is enabled by going to Yast>System>Runlevel Editor, as I have mymachine up all the time at 100% CPU I have not tried this, have a look

at the manual for it

man cpuspeed

Or use powersaved which can be started from the runlevel editor as
well
and is configured in:

Yast>System>Sysconfig Editor>System>Powermanagement

9.2 64bit.
but the path is the same on 9.1 and 9.0.

You probably have not got it installed, I did miss the /etc as it is
the
only thing for Sysconfig in that part of Yast:

Yast>System>/etc/sysconfig Editor then you follow the rest in the
left
pane System>Powermanagement and under this are different options in 3sub headings "CPU clock control", "Powersave" and "acpid"

Any closer?

No probs Don,

I type that in by reflex, it used to be called sysconfig editor in
earlier incarnations and I forget about the /etc on the front.
