In a bit of a rush, here is a quick howto:- First off get the latest AMD64bit drivers from Nvidia and then make sure you have the kernel source files for your kernel version installed and prepped, use Yast to install the kernel source and then do an update to make sure they are current then as root:- cd /usr/src/linux make cloneconfig make prepare-all Change to the directory that has the Nvidia package and :- init 3 (this will drop you to a console as you cannot install them with X server running) sh ./NVIDIA-<version-number>.pkg.run follow the on screen prompts, when it asks if it should check the netfor updates say "No" it should then compile the modules and install them, if you already have the graphics setup for the old modules thendo not run sax2 just go into :- init 5 to startup X again and see if that helps. I have got to dash out for an hour so if there are any probs post back later please. -- Mark Novell Support Forums SysOp Twixt hill and high water N. Wales, UK. |

Took a bit of time to chase it down to the kernel ( as Nico says ) once I had recompiled a 2.6.11 custom for my system to cure some other little niggles I found the Nvidias were a lot more stable. I don`t think it is well documented as such because it affects 64bit and there are not that many around yet, also Nvidia did fix a lot of bugsin the old drivers now that more people are running them on 64bit andreporting the bugs to the forums on the site. SuSE 9.2 has /etc/X11/xorg.conf symlinked to /etc/X11/XF86config, unless you do something odd to break that link. This is because they've updated the X distribution to be xorg-x11, but failed to track down all the uses of /etc/X11/XF86Config such as those in the SaX2 configuration tool and update them. Hopefully SuSE 9.3 will address this. > Took a bit of time to chase it down to the kernel ( as Nico says ) once > I had recompiled a 2.6.11 custom for my system to cure some other > little niggles I found the Nvidias were a lot more stable. > > I don`t think it is well documented as such because it affects 64bit and > there are not that many around yet, also Nvidia did fix a lot of bugs > in the old drivers now that more people are running them on 64bit and > reporting the bugs to the forums on the site. > > HTH > > -- > Mark > Novell Support Forums SysOp > Twixt hill and high water > N.
