Doing an 'apt search java' shows:

java-1_4_2-sun

as the most recent.

Does Sun even have a 1.5.0 version? See:

There are several I use (the first two are my favorites):

http://rpm.pbone.net/
http://www.rpmseek.com/index.html?hl=com
http://rpmfind.net/

Yeah, that's a funny thing, I thought it was a virus (.vbs) there :-)

It is an old trick to mess up Outlook Express, mostly used in some
groups so that OE users have difficulty reading the post.

Just not wanted here as there are a bigger percentage of newbs who
might
be using the above software.

But that's just my point -- nowhere on those pages is a 1.5.0
referenced
*other* than in the URL. Looks like they are changing the naming
scheme.
You can download:

J2SE 5.0
J2SE 1.4.2

Yes, this is the new name. Since I am using apt in SUSE, I thought a kind soul made a rpm package (for 1.5.0 or 5.0 or whatever: the latest

that includes support for generics and put it into an apt repo.

Yes, that would be nice. But until then, it doesn't look too hard to
install yourself via RPM. See the directions here:

http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/jre/install-linux.html

read the section on 'Installation of RPM File' . . .
