Default Problem installing Google Earth

I am new to Linux and OpenSuse, so I decided to follow the guide at
HowtoForge.com and install according to the instructions for, "The
Perfect Desktop OpenSUSE 10.3". Every thing went great until I
installed Google Earth. I installed Google Earth using these
instructions:

To install Google Earth, open a terminal and become root:

su

Then run

cd /home/falko/Desktop
wget http://dl.google.com/earth/client/cu...EarthLinux.bin
sh GoogleEarthLinux.bin

After the install, when I click on the application icon to run Google
Earth I get the Google Earth screen for a moment and the the screen
goes black for a few seconds and then I get the OpenSUse signon screen
where must enter my user ID and password. After signing in, I am back
to my Desktop.

What is wrong and how do I correct the problem?

Hi
You don't need to run it as root user to install if you are the only
user. Have you installed 3D drivers and also the vera-bitstream font?

I have google earth running fine here with the Nvidia drivers
