no mpeg sound in kaffeine migrating 9.2 to 9.3

The subject says it. Plain vanilla installs for both 9.2 and 9.3. 9.3
kaffeine plays the video from the mpeg file but not the audio. Can anyone
point me to authoritative info on what changed and if there is a simple
way (i.e. so I don't have to build MPlayer) to configure it to work?
