The following link behaved oddly for me:
http://www.ecmwf.int/products/foreca...!2006122900!!/ When I clicked on it, Firefox opened four tabs for the following links: http://www.ecmwf.int/products/foreca...v850_z500!Wind http://850/ http://www.and.com/index1.php http://www.mslp!240!europe!pop!od!op...6122900!!.com/ It appears that "%20" triggers a break in the link and causes Firefox to open another tab. I've repeated the experiment making Epiphany and Mozilla the default browsers but they work OK. I've also tried Firefox 2.0.0.1 in XP and it's OK. I've repeated the problem with SUSE 10.2 on a other machine. I'm getting suspicious that it's the SUSE 10.2 version of Firefox that's the problem. Why is the SUSE version of the browser, 2.0.0.1-1, based on 2.0.0.2pre? Is this a pre-release version? Graham |

Hi Graham, The link works fine with copy and paste, but it is doing what you said when it is default html application. It works fine with URL pasted and manually replaced %20 for a backspace. There is something in conversation between KDE and Firefox that breaks the URL in 4 parts. Solution is to install version in: http://software.opensuse.org/downloa...openSUSE_10.2/ it is unofficial with some bug fixes. Among others the one that you noticed. The version that you will see in Help-ABout Firefox is SUSE/2.0.0.1-8.1 Firefox/2.0.0.1. And, yes 2.0.0.2pre is release candidate. My personal thanks for reporting the bug. Now I have to go back to http://bugzilla.novell.com and say thanks to them :-) -- Regards, Rajko. http://en.opensuse.org/Portal |

I had a go at installing the other version but when I got a load of conflicts I decided to leave well alone! Better the devil you know, etc. The problem is minor and, as you mention, easy to get round. Thanks, Graham |

Than I got to go and when I was back zmd-updater icon (globe in taskbar) was orange, click on it revealed that I have Firefox updates. You can speed up that with, either: - right click on zmd-updater icon (globe in taskbar), select Refresh and after it become orange click on it and you will have Firefox updates. or - start Software Management module, type firefox in search field and mark for update. The version is compiled by one of SUSE developers and it fixes some other bugs. So far I know: - 203748 This one is similar to your report, - 230696 version number mismatch that you also noted. With repositories on http://software.opensuse.org/ you should be sure who compiled software and for what purpose. Quality is not guaranteed, just because software is there. So I checked that first. -- Regards, Rajko. http://en.opensuse.org/Portal |

I forget the error message - something about not finding the source? I cut & pasted the address so there were no spelling mistakes, I got all the right number of slashes in all the right places but no joy. Now, after seeing your message, I've tried again and it's worked first time. I've been going through a spell the past few weeks where everything that can go wrong has done, along with several things that I thought couldn't ever possibly go wrong. Perhaps the New Year will bring a change for the better! Thanks again for your help, Graham |

Graham,
is that still the machine upgraded from a previous version? With all the problems you have, I'd seriously consider a clean install. Uwe -- Novell Support Connection Volunteer SysOp Please don't send me support related e-mail unless I ask you to do so. |

Looks like I may have a hardware problem on my laptop as it freezes with hard-drive light fully on and these failures are happening with increasing frequency. It never rains but it pours! Even with clean installs, problems still arise from changes to methods of configuration of programs in the home directories. It occasionally takes some messing around with the configuration folders after a new release to get things working as they should. This morning, when I booted this machine, I got GRUB error 22 and I though "here we go again" but reboot was OK. If luck has anything to do with it, I suppose I can look back many years ago to when I had a run of five successive raffle wins and think this is just balancing things out. ;-) Cheers, Graham |

Graham,
the Grub error was on the freezing laptop? If so it sure sounds like a hardware issue. Can you test the HD? As for config files: I normally rename my homedir and copy over just the config files I need. Mostly Kontact related stuff. This is hard disk. First that comes in mind is from name - laptop. Don't cover ventilation holes. I've got such problem with desktop. I used Maxtor program. There was option for non destructive check, repaired what is left and there is no problems ever since. It has extra cooling, though ;-) -- Regards, Rajko. http://en.opensuse.org/Portal |

I thought - perhaps that should be "think" - that overheating was the problem on the laptop and checked that ventilation holes were un-obstructed. Everything seemed OK. I've had a problem with the laptop disk since installing Linux - using the partitioner supplied with 10.1 instead of using another program seems to have been a mistake. Re-installing XP or using Partition Magic after the event became impossible. But, as both systems worked OK - and I only use XP to configure my router - I was not too bothered. However, I'm pretty sure this is not related to the current problem. > I've got such problem with desktop. I used Maxtor program. A couple of months ago, whilst I was trying another flavour of Linux, the Grub installer on that one appeared to have picked up one of the older versions. I'm therefore not too surprised if once in a while the booter gets its knickers in a twist but as long as it doesn't make a habit of it I'm happy. Cheers, Graham |
