I have a Back-UPS XS 1500 powering my computer and attached to a USB
port for monitoring. I installed with Yast the apcupsd and apcupsd-gui packages, both versions 3.13.9-20, to automatically shut down before the backup UPS loses its battery power if it is disconnected from the A/C, and to monitor visually the battery power. I followed the instructions on the apcupsd sight to configure the apcupsd configuration file /etc/apcupsd/apcupsd.conf for my APC UPS. When I boot into OpenSuse 10.2 the apcupsd is not automatically running. Furthermore when I execute '/usr/sbin/apcupsd start' nothing appears to happen and no events are written to the /var/log/apcupsd.events file. In effect it appears that apcupsd is not working at all. Does anybody have apcupsd working for them in OpenSuse 10.2 ? If so, does anybody know what might be wrong with my installation of this package in OpenSuse 10.2 ? |

First, you need to set the service to start automatically with the runlevel editor. (YaST->System->System Services). After starting it, look for "apcupsd" in /var/log/messages to see if there were any errors. Finally, type "apcaccess status" and see if it reports something that looks correct. I am running 10.1, but it should not have changed. Evidently after installation, the service was never started automatically. Once I started the service it has been running correctly and apcupsd is working now. Thanks ! |
