Default Deleting OpenOffice in OpenSuse 10.2

It appears that I can not delete OpenOffice from Suse 10.2 with KDE as
my graphical environment. If I attempt to delete it, Yast tells me that
pattern:kde-10.2-145-i586 must also be deleted, evidently because it
depends on OpenOffice somehow. Is OpenOffice intricately tied to KDE in
OpenSuse 10.2 ? If not, how can I delete it ? When I search for
'kde-10.2-145-i586 it turns up nothing.

Edward,

I noticed that too. If you try and remove Ooo, it will try and remove KDE (or Gnome).
I'd be bold and just ignore the dependencies.

Correct.

I am not that bold <g>. Somehow KDE appears to need OpenOffice. Well if
I just ignore the dependencies and things start going wrong, I guess I
can re-install OpenOffice and hopefully things will become right again.
Still maybe the best thing is to leave it alone, since I can live with
OpenOffice existing, even if I do not use it.

Telling YAST to "Ignore this time" doesn't seem to worry it at all. I
always remove the Novell version of OOo and replace it with a later OOo
build and I did it with 10.2 despite the forecasts of doom.

So go ahead and delete it, however I would suggest substituting OOo 2.1...
of course I am a little biased.

cheers

This is part of the nanny Suse knows best cross dependencies that I am
beginning to hate, KDE does not rely on any part of Ooo but there is
probably one other item that has both as dependencies and erring on the
safe side YAST will delete everything if you let it. It is safe to ignore
this message, I did when I decided to ignore the obsolete packages that
YAST wants to install in order to use the current versions.
