Default VNC connection

I am running open suse 10.2 When I try a remote connect from a windows box I get a gray screen and a mouse icon X which
moves around. I can see no icons or menus.

Thanks for the help

I should state that the screen is identical through a web browser as well as ultravnc.

Did you enable "YaST->Network Services->Remote Administration" ?

Have you tried
http://en.opensuse.org/SSH_Tunnels_f...rosoft_Windows
it uses Putty to access SUSE from Windows, but ultravnc is mentioned too.

BTW, please post your answers below quotes, that way they are in
chronological order and easy to read. Note how I edited the quotes.

In that this is a personal preference issue, feel free to discuss it in
Community Chat, and please refrain from "correcting" others here in the
technical forums as some may actually prefer top postings, but this isn't
the correct venue for that discussion. Thanks for your cooperation.

For your bennefit I reply down here.

The tunneling software looks interesting but it is more complicated of a solution. I believe it has to do with some VNC
server setting but have not been able to figure it out since the client can connect to the server.

I found the solution:
At the login screen, on the open Suse box, I entered configuration mode and enabled remote login. Then I was able to
use either tightvnc or ultravnc to connect.

??
In last couple of months this is the my first message here, where I politely
asked somebody for a favor to help me (and others) reading article that
contains quotes and OP had no problem with it. Would I repeat that for the
second time, probably not, but also I would probably quit reading the
thread when I find that is too demandfull.

It is obviously correcting others, but is that common forum spam with
technically unrelated messages about top vs. bottom posting, or seed for
flame?
I don't think so.

So far I understand "refrain from" is applicable to repetitive offending
actions and jumping on a part of one message seems to be way out of
tolerant line for message style and occasional non technical remarks, that
is maintained in this forums since their creation.

I can't resist not to mention this too:
http://en.opensuse.org/Communicate#T...org_Newsgroups
is there because I thought that it should be there as useful resource.

I'm sorry, but this is not an appropriate forum for this discussion. If you
would like to continue discussing forum etiquette, please move your
discussion to the Community Chat forum.

Your assistance in keeping our technical forum discussions technical in
nature is appreciated.
