In what way do you need info about mp3 players please???

I have found that most will just be recognised as normal USB drives and it
is therefore just a case of browsing and copying across the files.

Even with my Ipod ( shuffle ) I can copy my mp3`s across and use a little
python script to update the database, also there is gtkpod and others which
will do the updating for you.

Amarok handles iPods and other MP3 players perfectly.

One note on that. My ipod 60GB would not work correctly until I updated the
Amarok to the latest version. It would not "play" well with the
connection/disconnection of the ipod. I also discovered that with my
playing around I had mucked up the DB on the ipod and had to dust off my
windows partition to reformat the ipod disk and clean it out. But once that
was done AOK.

On other mp3 players I have a really old Creative (not sure of the model,
but it is an all ram, and now has been committed to my "unwanted
technology" draw :-)) player that connects via USB. This uses a proprietary
comms protocol so does not appear as a disk. So no go on Linux as far as I
could find when I was trying it out.

Whoops just noted that I should have mentioned this was SuSE 10.0 and Amarok
1.3 (IIRC) now running 1.4 (The one with the wolf in the banner).

Don't know about that one.... did play with my daughter's
Sansa e260. Seem to work well in USB drive mode... didn't
try to use the Microsoft proprietary protocol stuff... thought
there's a library and tools for it supposedly.

All of her songs were stored WMA (she uses Windows Media
Player currently with it).. .but they all played fine
for me with a properly configured Kaffeine.
