Just installed Suse 10.1 with Xgl and Compiz enabled. In Gnome, everyting
works fine. In KDE I have a problem, however. When using Compiz, the application launched do not appear in the taskbar, and once they are minimized, they can no longer be reached. IIRC, same problem occurred when I played with compiz in Suse 10.0. Any ideas how to fix it? |

However since (I'm guessing) you are doing a hard replace of compiz, the default KDE window manager is getting the rug pulled out from underneath it. It's simply a timing issue. Applications that want to sit in the system tray (which is what I assume you mean by "taskbar") end up either sitting outside of the system tray or just not at all (depends on the timing). There might be some way to forcing a delay before nuking the KDE window manager in preference of compiz.... but it may well be that the other way around needs to happen (other startup apps need to be delayed).. not totally sure. |

I am not sure I understand you correctly Do you mean that this is atemporary issue? > Applications that want to sit in the system tray (which is what > I assume you mean by "taskbar") No, no. The system tray is the right corner where system clock sit and where a few minimized programs can be found, like Kinternet or zenupdater The taskbar, of which I spoke about, is located in thecenter of the panel. It is like Mtaskbar, you know, but the one out of the box. Every program I run is normally displayed in the taskbar with a small rectangle. The problem is that the taskbar remains empty, with no sign of the launched application, when I use compiz as the window manager in KDE. And when I minimize the application window, it thus disappears completely. This blocks the normal work ![]() |

The option "Show windows from all desktops" must be turned on even if you
work within only one desktop. This solves the problem with the taskbar. |

I believe there is a Qt/KDE extension for Compiz being planned, but I havn't seen anything regarding that yet. |

Well I think you will find there is. Whilst it is true that Compiz / Xgl will work with KDE (and I have configured it this way on several PC's now it DOES use the Gnome window manager and not the KDE one. THis is unfortunately the best we have until the Qt/KDE integration is completed. THe post does not say it does not work, just that it is not using the KDE window manager. And as I have now rebuilt my own PC with Gnome not KDE I can confirm that Compiz IS better under gnome. However once that Qt/KDE bit is written I'll be back to KDE like a shot! Regards Craig |

I stand behind my original statement. Read the poster's post again and you'll see that most of it does not make any sense. |
