Default OpenOffice

I just installed Suse Desktop on one of my boxes. I am VERY impressed
BUT...

The version of Open Office is so old, it's got a long white beard! I can
install OpenOffice 2.0.2, but how do I get rid of the old 1.1 Novell one?

Not *that* old (if you did a system update, then you should have 2.0)
You can get rid of the current installed version with Yast>Software
Management.

I tried to run system Update, but click on it and NOTHING happens.

Tried to run YAST - Install and Remove Software - get a white blank screen
pop up and vanishes immediately

You must have a 9.x distribution prior to 9.3 of SuSe Desktop. I don't
think there are updates available through Yast that will up date those
distros. I would be a matter of totally uninstalling the OOO and
installing a newer version. I do not think SuSe has packages made up
for the OOO 2.x for distros prior to 9.3

If "You" is me :-), no, I have 10.0.
I was referring to suse linux 10.0. But now that you moention, perhaps the
original poster (i.e. not me) has a previous version installed.

There are Openoffice 2.0 updates for 10.0 via the Yast Update.
These were released on 2 Nov 2005. See:

http://www.novell.com/linux/download.../100_i386.html

Alternatively one can download the 2.0.2 from Openoffice.org.

Cheers,

YES, I have already downloaded the 2.0.2 release my question is - for the
second time - How do I get rid of 1.1? - How do I DE-install 1.1? As I
said earlier, install remove software gives me a BLANK screen and
installing 2.0.2 does NOT update the 1.1 release

I don't really want TWO versions on my computer!

Are you saying there are no packages shown no matter which filter you
use ( Packages, Selections.. etc..)?
