Default getting a winmodem to work

I am trying to get an internal "winmodem" to work with SUSE 10.

The modem is a Point Multimedia Systems MM9250 PCI 56K and uses the
Lucent Lt Winmodem chipset.

The modem is detected and configured by YAST ok but I cannot connect to
it or communicate with it via either AT commands or wvmodem. I've tried
uninstalling and reinstalling as well as changing the port name. I know
the modem works as I use it in my win2000 box ok. I know the modem
communication protocols are working ok as tried it with a 28k external
(hardware) modem with no problems, but obviously I want something a bit
faster before I can migrate away from windoze.

Thanks.

Andrew

This site is really good for Winmodems: http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/

I highly recommend paying attention to the section on scanModem and
downloading the application. It will tell your the REAL chip
manufacturer, and in fact tell you whether smartmodem or another driver
needs to be loaded.
