Hi
Just installed Suse for the first time in my attempt to ditch windows but all my music seems unplayable with any of the media players supplied with Suse 10.0. I can play a test sound so I know my speakers are working and I can play cd's but my music which resides on disk will not play. When I try to play mp3's in xine I get the following error: "The Stream 'There is no mrl' use an unsupported codec: Audio codec: MPEG 1 Layer 3 VBR (0x0) start Playback anyway YES NO" If I click on YES I get the following error "This version of xine may lack certain legal requirements (potential Pateny Violation). " Does anyone have any ideas or can they point me in the right direction? Any help would be much appreciated. This is legal music that I've ripped off CD! |

FAQ: > http://waxborg.servepics.com/mobile/...es/vmware.html > Playing multimedia in SUSE 10.0: > http://waxborg.servepics.com/English...imedia.en.html For whatever reason (they claim legal), a standard install of suse 10 doesn't play mp3's well. even xmms which worked perfectly in version 9.3 doesn't work in 10. a solution is to check the following url http://mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/news.html . there they have codecs to play most types of media, including wmv & wma. IF suse wishes to get more of the market, this is something that needs to be addressed. not all users seek office/productivity (which there is plenty in all distros). most to fully ditch windoze require entertainment!. my 2 cents |

There's no "playing not well". even xmms which worked perfectly in version 9.3 > doesn't work in 10. The laws have changed since then. It's worthless and clueless. Suse Linux Enterprise Desktop will have MP3 support, and you pay for it. Actually once you did it two or three times, the lack of Multimedia stuff in Suse is not a problem. Add Packman as an installation source and off you go. Uwe -- Novell Support Connection Volunteer SysOp Please don't send me support related e-mail unless I ask you to do so. |

This doesn't necessarily make them worth anything. Of course everybody also has the right to his/her opinion. This was mine. Not worth much.
