Schentlemens undt Schentlevimmens:
I own a copy of VMware Workstation v4 and a copy of VMware with Winders XP for SUSE Linux, I don't know what version, which I bought shortly after VMware was demonstrated at a PIBMUG meeting in Pasadena, Calif. in January of 2000. Here is the time frame of my purchases: 2/02/2000 Purchased VMware for Linux host 3/25/2002 VMware Workstation 3.0 Upgrade 6/17/2002 Guest OS Kit with WINDOWS XP 6/05/2003 VMware Workstation 4 Upgr The Linux installation never took place since I have Winders programs I use daily which won't run in Linux. In addition, VMware is considerably more expensive now than it was then. Now I have a disk with Mandriva 10.1 which won't be used in my newer machine until my older machine can talk to the KVM switch through USB. Bah! Humbug. I'm sorely in need of a stable OS that will run Winders programs that seem to have no way to be run in Linux. I thought I'd have that with the combination of XP running in Linux, but tempis fugits, and things happen or don't, and now I'm stuck with version creep. Questions: 1. Will Mandriva 10.1 run the Win XP Guest Kit for SUSE of whatever version it was at that time? 2. If not, will the current version (10) of SUSE run the older Guest Kit? 3. Whatever the answer to the above, can you point me to some source of instructions as to how to get this thing running? I'm not a command-line guy -- yet -- and am just getting familiar with the gooey in Mandriva, so it has to be pretty simple. This is sent to Mandriva, SUSE, and VMware, in alphabetical order, and any suggestions & comments from any or all will be welcomed and appreciated. Thank you. Los Angeles CA USA |

Don't know anything about Madriva but if you want to run windows programs
using VMWare then Suse 10 works outstanding. I use Windows 2000, XP and 98 in VMWare 5.5.1 on Suse 9.3 and 10 hosts. Each of the windows guests run better under VmWare, with 256 MB ram allocated, that they did natively with 512MB+ ram. Regarding getting all to work under Mandriva you may get better help in the VMWare forums. http://www.vmware.com/community > Schentlemens undt Schentlevimmens: > > I own a copy of VMware Workstation v4 and a copy of > VMware with Winders XP for SUSE Linux, I don't know what > version, which I bought shortly after VMware was > demonstrated at a PIBMUG meeting in Pasadena, Calif. in > January of 2000.
