any on-the-fly encryption programs for SUSE

hello, I am getting frustrated at not being able to solve this problem, I
am trying to find a program that does on the fly encryption of harddrives,
usb drives etc. (and also password protects them) and that can be opened on
any computer regardless of Operating system.

I found the program called TrueCrypt but unfortunately I have been
unusccessful at installing their program eventhough they provide a SUSE 9.3
RPM It does not install. I have also tried installing from source but even
that is giving me problems.

I have gone to many forums to see if anyone can help me install this
program unfortunately my attempts have been fruitless.

can anyone recommend any programs that would fulfill this function??
