I'm running SLES v10 (SLED-10-SP1) Linux ascot 2.6.16.53-0.16-smp #1 SMP Tue Oct 2 16:57:49 UTC 2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux I run "yast2 online_update" just like I've been doing for many months now, - it brings up the window "initializing Online Update" - it pops up lots of little transient windows saying "Parsing files..." - eventually those stop, at that point the window has... - a green checkmark next to: Initialize the target system - a green checkmark next to: Refresh update sources - the progress bar at the bottom is at 100% - the column on the left says: The system is initializing the installation and update sources. Instllation and update sources can be altered in the Installation Source module. It never does anything again. I've let it sit for as long as six hours. Eventually I ^C it and it says: YaST got signal 2 at YCP file /usr/share/YaST2/clients/online_update_select.ycp:80 How do I diagnose and/or fix this? -- gebarnes ------------------------------------------------------------------------ gebarnes's Profile: http://forums.novell.com/member.php?userid=826 View this thread: http://forums.novell.com/showthread.php?t=293332 |

Have you added any additional installation sources to the default ones? If so you might wanna try removing these, to see if the problem lies within one of these. As I understand you're able to refresh the sources OK, but the problem happens during parsing the data, it could indicate some corrupt file that's downloaded from one of the sources during the refresh. -- ___________________________________________ Niclas Ekstedt, CNA/CNE/CNS/CLS Systems Engineer/NSC Sysop Telindus Sweden AB |

I installed SUSE back in August. All I've done since then is run yast2 online_update. I haven't added any new facilities since August. In early November the online_update simply stopped working. I don't know what you mean by "refresh the sources". The problem would seem to occur after parsing. There are lots of Parsing dialogs and lots of Downloading dialogs while the progress meter at the bottom slowly turns blue. Eventually it is all blue and says 100% at which point it never does anything again. Other than trashing the system and reinstalling from scratch, is there any way to force yast2 to tell me what is wrong or any way I can smash something and make it start over again? I'm assuming there that it is getting "stuck" on something that I could perhaps delete and force it to recreate. -- gebarnes ------------------------------------------------------------------------ gebarnes's Profile: http://forums.novell.com/member.php?userid=826 View this thread: http://forums.novell.com/showthread.php?t=293332 |

I posted some links over in novell.support.sled.updates on the same sort of issue (Subject: zen updater), it's probably better to post there about update issues :-) One question though, do you have an active subscription to updates? -- Cheers Malcolm °¿° (Linux Counter #276890) SLED 10.0 SP1 x86_64 Kernel 2.6.16.53-0.16-smp up 4 days 20:42, 1 user, load average: 0.14, 0.14, 0.09 |

Does "yast2 online_update" have anything to do with the zen updater? Or the reverse? I tried stopping and restarting the novell-zmd server and deleted the zmd.db in between and that made no difference. I don't have any subscriptions to Novell services. -- gebarnes ------------------------------------------------------------------------ gebarnes's Profile: http://forums.novell.com/member.php?userid=826 View this thread: http://forums.novell.com/showthread.php?t=293332 |

Ah...that seems to be the problem. We have an internal update server that Novell lets us use and when I run "yast2 inst_source" the Novell servers are active and on the top of the sources list. They shouldn't be there for my machine. If I deactivate them and leave only the internal server then yast2 online_update starts working again. They were deactivated when I did the original installation but I'd long since forgotten about all of that. Thank you for reminding me about that particular wrinkle. Apparently things just lock up if you need a subscription but don't have one. -- gebarnes ------------------------------------------------------------------------ gebarnes's Profile: http://forums.novell.com/member.php?userid=826 View this thread: http://forums.novell.com/showthread.php?t=293332 |
