Default Firefox security update breaks beagle indexer plugin

Hi,

I'm using OpenSUSE 10.1, and just allowed the software updater to apply a
security patch to Firefox which upgraded it from 1.5.0.something to
2.0.0.4 Unfortunately, the Beagle Indexer (v0.5) extension is apparently
not compatible with the new Firefox version and has been disabled. I see
from http://beagle-project.org/Firefox_Extension that there's a newer
version of the add-on that is compatible with Firefox 2, but when I go to
Firefox's Add-ons dialog it says "Update not supported (install location
is read only)."

Is there any chance of a corresponding patch for the software updater to
upgrade the plugin to the later version? Otherwise, I guess I'll have to
get used to Beagle not indexing web sites any more...

Good riddance. Oops, that doesn't seem to be the answer you wanted. :-)

Sounds like a permission problem. Did you try installing the add-on as 'root'?

Not yet, since I figured if there were any different files in the new
version it might mess things up for the package manager in the event there
ever was a newer rpm. Is that not the case?
