Hi,
are there any plans to provide software updates with apt in Suse? To me this seems to be the easiest way to quickly get software installed, from a user's perspective... (and my colleagues wouldn't bug me how cumbersome it is e.g. to install the latest java VM on Suse) Regards, Jörg |

Jörg,
I doubt it will become the standard. You can use e.g. Smart to deal with apt-deb and apt-rpm repositories, but I never needed that. Uwe -- Novell Support Connection Volunteer SysOp Please don't send me support related e-mail unless I ask you to do so. |

Hi Uwe,
do you per chance have experiences with the instructions in that Smart Suse Wiki article? Does it really work with 10.2? No idea, I just use the Smart GUI with a couple of rpm-repositories, no apt, no updater applet. Try it and report back, please. I don't think it's officially supported though. You can try this HOWTO: <http://susewiki.org/index.php?title=Install-apt4suse> I used apt a lot in 10.0 and 10.1, now I just use YaST since just about everything is now available via a YaST-compatible repository. I do have apt set up on 10.2 and it does work with repomd repositories. HTH Matt |
