10.1 Online Update asking for media change

In trying to perform online updates for 10.1, I get the following message:

Media Change is Required
Please insert 'SUSE-Linux-10.1-CD-x86 (Failed to mount
/var/adm/mount/AP_0x00000002 on Mounting media failed :
cd:///?devices=/dev/hdc)' on media 2

Mounting my distribution CD does not help - as far as I can tell, the
system does not even access the CD before returning to the above error
message.

The symptoms are the same whether I am trying to apply all available
updates or a single update at a time.
