Default Problems with updates

Two days ago I did a online update and it offered an Xorg update/patch
Yesterday I booted to a black screen, the only cure/wayout was to restart
in failsafe and start YasT which I did and reinstalled Xorg 6.8 (which is
what the update/patch was for.
Today once again You is asking that I update my Xorg security and also my
Xorg windows system.
I do not wish to have a black screen on next boot up, so I updated the
other available items IE mozzila security and one other.
I locked the Xorg updates (not to update) but after concluding the update
session it still (the litte red ball) say's updates are available.
How can I update Xorg 6.8 package and not crash my X windows?
SUSE 10.0 kernel 2.6.15.
I posted at another part of this forum, but thought perhaps I should try
here instead.
Any help welcome, Thanks.
