Default infinite libzypp update loop (10.1)

Hi,

Yast Online Update shows I need a libzypp update. After applying the
update, YOU keeps telling me I still need that update.

When I try 'rug update', it says:
ERROR: Dependency resolution failed:
Resolvable id 148145 does not exist.

y2log lists several items like:
[store] XMLFilesBackend.cc(deleteObject):571 Error removing resolvable
[S0:0][atom]libzypp-1.2.0-1.27.i586
[target] TargetImpl.cc(commit):243 TargetImpl::commit(<list>CommitPolicy( ))

Have you rebooted your machine since the online update? That might work.

Yes.

Nope, it makes no difference.

kurt,

as root, try an
rpm --rebuilddb

and try a YOU again.

Unfortunately, this also doesn't help. I tried to reboot after the db
rebuilt, but that didn't help either.

In (text mode) YOU, the libzypp is marked as "a>" instead of just ">".

y2log still shows lots of errors like
[zypp] PathInfo.cc(_Log_Result):295 unlink
/var/lib/zypp/db/atoms/a90ee4572805d93f336615c01f8bc4c9 FAILED: errno 2
[store] XMLFilesBackend.cc(deleteObject):565 Error removing resolvable
[S0:0][atom]zmd-devel-7.1.1.0-39.50.i586

The directory /var/lib/zypp/db/atoms doesn't even exist. I tried
creating it, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

rpm -qi libzypp says:

Version : 1.2.0
Release : 1.27
Build Date: Tue Jul 18 00:26:38 2006

That's what I have. Does the update show up in the Zen updater?

Yes. Zen-updater shows two entries (libzypp 1839-0 and rug
7.1.1.0-18.24), while YOU only shows one.

Alleluia, clicking 'update' in zen-updater worked!
I had tried that before, but it had failed (unfortunately I don't
remember the exact error message, it was probably something like 'could
not resolve atom XYZ').

After instaling the patches, rpm -qi libzypp still lists the same
version and build date.

thanks,
kurt.

Woohoo! :-)

Yes, the zen-updater requires a restart after the libzypp update through Yast. I saw the same behavior here.

That sounds weird indeed, but as I said, it is the same version I have and I was up-to-date.
Glad it is working for you now!

I had a similar problem at home last night. I tried about all possible
permutations of YOU, rug update, rug refresh, changing the update
mirror, reboot, etc. Zen-updater showed no available updates at all.
The number of available updates shown in you oscilated wildly, sometimes
only libzypp, sometimes a dozen. It couldn't install any though.
Eventually three sequential runs of YOU solved the problem. Huh???

Not fun. I hope 10.2 will have a decent update subsystem again.

Well, mine works quite fine now. But you are absolutely right.
